Microneedling

aka Vampire Facial

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure that creates tiny imperfections or wounds to the skin using a disposable, motorized device composed of thin needles.

What can microneedling treat?

Microneedling can be used to treat acne scars, scars due to trauma or surgery, wrinkles including lip lines and crow's feet, stretch marks, brown spots, melasma, and enlarged pores.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling creates tiny pricks with a disposable, motorized group of 12-36 tiny needles that injure your skin's epidermis and dermis (the top and middle layer of the skin).  This injury sends a repair and regenerate signal to your body to stimulate new collagen and elastin.  Collagen and elastin break down as we are exposed to the sun and age.  By stimulating renewal of these youthful skin components with microneedling, we can improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles, age and sun spots, scars, pore size and skin texture.

What is the downtime with microneedling?

Downtime is minimal with microneedling.  As your skin repairs the small imperfections created by the procedure, your skin will be pink, possibly scaly and rough for 3 to 5 days.

Is microneedling safe for darker skin types?

Yes.  Microneedling is safe in all skin types.  Unlike other cosmetic procedures, microneedling does not deliver heat to the skin.  Heat from lasers and other cosmetic devices can cause hyperpigmentation in darker skin types.  Because microneedling does not deliver heat to the skin it is safe for all skin tones.

How many treatments are needed?

While some improvement may be seen with one treatment, most patients require a series of 3 to 5 treatments for desired results.  Typically treatments are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to maximize results.

What can I expect the during my microneedling treatment?

Our office will apply a topical numbing cream to your face for 20 to 30 minutes prior to the procedure.  The cream will be removed and the microneedling will be performed by Dr. Campbell.

Dr. Campbell will work with you to determine the appropriate depth of microneedling for each area of the skin based on your skin type, problems to address, your goals and desired downtime.

Each region of the face is treated until pinpoint bleeding is achieved in most cases.  The entire face takes 10 to 15 minutes to treat.  You can then expect to leave the office a red tinge to the skin.  Post procedure care will be reviewed pre and post procedure.
