What is Kybella?
Kybella is a new treatment option for fat in the submental area or “double chin," back fat or "bra bulge," and fat below the buttocks or "banana roll."
Kybella is the first FDA-approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat beneath the chin. Kybella has proven effective and safe with over 20 clinical studies conducted to day and over 1,600 patients treated. Kybella is composed of deoxycholic acid, which is a synthetic form of a naturally occurring acid that the body uses to break down fat in our digestive system.
What causes a double chin or submental fat?
Submental fat can be caused by genetics, weight gain, and aging. Unfortunately, in many cases even diet and exercise do not eliminate the fullness beneath the chin.
What can you expect during a treatment with Kybella?
During the procedure the area is numbed and then small amounts of deoxycholic acid are injected into the area of fat destroying fat cells permanently.
What can you expect after a treatment with Kybella?
The treated area swells for a few days as the body naturally removes the dead fat cells. Interestingly, in clinical studies, this inflammation helped to tighten the skin in the treated area. Results take 4 to 6 weeks at which point a follow-up should be scheduled to assess if more treatments are needed. Most patients need an average of 1 to 3 treatment sessions
