Skincare Routine 101: Tips for Healthy and Glowing Skin

Consistency is the key to achieving healthy, glowing skin. With so many products and techniques out there, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. In this guide, we'll break down the essential steps for a basic skincare routine or what I like to call a “skincare skeleton” that will leave your skin looking its best.

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleansing is the foundation of any good skincare routine. It removes dirt, excess oil, makeup, and other impurities that can clog pores and lead to breakouts. Choose a gentle, non-drying cleanser that won't strip your skin or impair the skin’s barrier. Massage the cleanser into your skin using circular motions, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Use your hands and avoid wash clothes or other abrasive tools.

Step 2: Antioxidants

Incorporating antioxidants into your routine can help protect your skin from environmental stressors like pollution and UV exposure. As you reach your 40s, skin cell turnover does slow so consider increasing the frequency of your chemical exfoliating to 3-4 times per week.

You may notice this routine does not include toning the skin. Skip the toning. Most toners are alcohol based and can lead to dry, irritated skin. Toners are not a necessary step in your skincare routine.
